Change
is always happening. The really successful people anticipate where the
change is going and get there
first. Hockey legend Wayne Gretsky explained his successful approach as,
"I skate to where the puck is going to be." Mastering change is a set
of
skills
and
perspectives
that
are major contributors to the
success
or
failure
of
individuals
and organizations. Change Leadership Without change there would be no need for leaders. Leaders help anticipate and formulate direction and perspective to move individuals and organizations to a new reality. Change Leadership requires creativity and pragmatism. Understanding the dynamics of political influence and power are key to Change Leadership. It is critical for leaders to understand how groups act and interact in a changing environment. The debate as to whether leaders are born or made is irrelevant. All leaders must continually work on improving their leadership skills. Change Masters® provides the skills and guidance to master change. Team Development builds the Change Leadership skills needed for success. Change Agent Development Successful implementation of change in the organization requires key leaders and professionals to consciously move the organization forward. There are essential, critical skills that need to be broadly understood. Often, the success of a change agent is based on how they deliver their message as much as the message they deliver. In a changing environment, the opportunity for misunderstanding is widespread. Clarity and consistency are key skills of change agents. Fear is often critical to changing individuals’ behavior. On the other hand, too much fear can paralyze individuals and organizations. We feel stress when we do not feel we can make the objective and we feel challenged when we believe we can make the objective. Often, the same set of circumstances communicated one way or the other makes the whole difference between success and failure. Change Masters® shows the change agents in your company how to be more effective. Individual Development builds the personal skills to be a more effective change agent. Technology Change Agents The implementation of new technology always requires change. Many technologists focus on the technology and not the impact on individuals and the organization. This series teaches the technology change agents how to understand the impact and resolve problems before they become serious problems. Technologists learn how to improve satisfaction and smooth communications among all the parties impacted by the technological change. The primary cause of computer system implementation failures is the lack of communications and training. However, most effort and dollars are spent on the technology implementation. We work with technologists as individuals and groups to make them more effective change agents in the organization. Change Mentoring The successful implementation of change often requires an outside perspective and the ability to gather information from a number of people impacted by the change. The role of Change Masters® as a Change Mentor is to help leaders implement the changes in the organization. This provides the outside perspective that is often critical. It also keeps the leaders of the organization clearly leading the change within the organization. Often major improvements in approach to change implementation can be accomplished through minor adjustments. Change Masters® provides ways to more effectively implement change by focusing on the unique opportunities within each situation. This may include, for example, presentation coaching when the CEO delivers a very important message on restructuring. Another
example is the proper handling of the “rumor mill.” The
rumors often provide incorrect information that is counter productive.
Change efforts must constructively deal with such “rumor mills” to
help them support the needed changes. Each situation is different and most
change efforts are better if they are done with the help of a Change Mentor.
